People ask us all the time whether artificial grass is really worth it over a real lawn. Fair question. Here's the honest rundown for anyone living in Langley and the rest of the Fraser Valley.
The weather here is hard on real grass
We get soaked all winter and then hit with summer watering restrictions just when the lawn needs water most. Real grass spends half the year as mud and the other half going brown under a sprinkling ban. That's a tough cycle to keep a lawn looking good through.
Artificial turf doesn't care. It stays green in February rain and August heat. No watering, so the restrictions don't touch it.
Maintenance: where turf really wins
- Real grass: mow weekly, water, fertilize, aerate, reseed, fight moss and weeds
- Artificial turf: hose it off, blow off leaves, rinse pet spots, done
- Real grass: muddy paws and ruts all winter
- Artificial turf: clean and usable in any season
If you actually enjoy mowing, real grass is a fine hobby. Most people we talk to would rather have their Saturdays back.
Shade is the other big one
Tons of homes in areas like Walnut Grove back onto greenbelt or sit under big trees. Real grass thins out and goes patchy in shade no matter what you do. Turf looks full and even whether it's in full sun or deep shade.
Where real grass still makes sense
We'll be straight with you. If you've got a big open acreage in full sun and you don't mind the upkeep, real grass can work fine. Turf shines on small lots, shady yards, pet areas, slopes, and anywhere you're sick of the maintenance.
Not sure which way to go? Call us. We'll look at your yard and give you an honest take, even if that means turf isn't the right call for your spot.
